Narnia 2-Evan Shively
It is no secret that Lewis hides much of his theology in his Narnia series. The part that hit me the hardest was the creation myth in the "magician's nephew". Lewis illustrates the beauty of the genesis myth in a powerful way. Aslan not just speaks creation into existence but sings it. Furthermore, the idea that the characters could be present during this experience is crazy. I can't imagine being present watching a magical jesus allegory lion sing creation into existence. I also enjoyed the way Lewis incorporated the character of the uncle into the creation. It was interested how uncle Andrew could not even comprehend the beauty of the world being created. He also could not hear the animals speaking. It really gets into the theology of Lewis and his ideas of the necessity of faith and the importance of the Christian myth. It also discusses Lewis' viewpoints towards hell (yes in a children's book!) when Aslan sees that all he can do is put uncle Andrew to sleep.
