Sally Duff-Harry Potter
In the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, Harry
is, like Aslan, depicted as a Jesus figure.
He is born into a family that does not reflect his powers. He then grows up not knowing who he is, until
it is slowly revealed to him. Over and
over again, Harry puts himself into situations where he is at risk in order to
protect others. In the first book he
goes after Voldemort to keep him from getting the power of the Sorceror’s
Stone. In the second, he goes into the
Chamber of Secrets to rescue Ginny and allow Hogwarts to keep from
closing. In the third, he goes back in
time to save two innocent lives. In the
forth he is put into the Triwizard tournament and eventually ends up dueling
the Dark Lord. It goes on and on. Finally in the last book, Harry dies. But it’s not a full death. After a few moments, he comes back to life
and, in doing so defeats the Dark Lord, Voldemort. This is reflective of Jesus dying on the
cross. He dies and then three days rose
again and, in doing so, conquered sin, death, and satan. I think one big difference between Harry and
Aslan is that Harry shows the more human side of Jesus, while Aslan shows the
more divine.
