Jacqueline Thornley- Outside Reading #5

This semester I was reading a book by Sam Keen called To Love and Be Loved. The book is essentially a philosophy on love. One section addresses love and storytelling. He notes, “human beings are story tellers. Our being is inseparable from our telling.” He distinguishes the difference in animals from humans in terms of love is that “animals live in a natural landscape; humans inhabit a fabricated storyscape.” Basically, animals may physically engage in everything that humans do except the sharing of story. And I really do think that is one of the best ways we show our love (and not necessarily romantic love) for each other. By listening and sharing we connect on a deeper level, showing trust and respect, solid foundations for any type of relationship.
