Jacqueline Thornley- Till We Have Faces #2
When I first started reading Till We Have Faces I thought it was going to be a typical “ugly duckling” story where the main character had some sort of troubling outward appearance and lived a tragic life but was essentially perfect in every other way. But such was not the case in this story. Orual was ugly outwardly and imperfect inwardly. Somehow this made her more likeable however. She’s not perfect, she has flaws and insecurities just like the rest of us. It’s hard to relate to the ugly duckling stories because let’s face it, sometimes we bring things upon ourselves. Sure, there are a lot of terrible, unjust things that happen to good people, but we’re not always the innocent victims like the ugly duckling story would have us believe, and it’s nice to have a story like this to remind us that every once in awhile.
