The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

This may seem like a silly question, but I have always wondered why Lewis decided to use the food Turkish Delight in the scene between Edmund and the White Witch. This scene is so significant, because it sets up Edmund's character, and it's the first time the reader sees the White Witch in this book.  Edmund chooses the Turkish Delight because the Witch offers him anything he could ever desire.  I think this move shows a lot about Edmund's character.  He is greedy and always thinks of himself.  He also always wants things he cannot desire; like being more powerful than Peter.  I think this scene is very significant, and I think Edmund's choice of Turkish Delight shows a lot about his character.
