Til We Have Faces
I really enjoyed the parallel between Psyche and Iphigenia. I studied the play about Iphigenia in high school and I watched a Greek version with subtitles. It is a very moving story with a lot of tension and action, and I really liked the parallel Lewis drew in Til We Have Faces. Only in this version, she doesn't actually die when she is sacrificed. I think this myth brought a lot to the book. The youngest daughter is sacrificed for the greater good of the society. Similar to the story of Iphegenia, there was corruption amount the priests and people who were pushing to have the youngest daughter sacrificed. In Til We Have Faces, Psyche was sacrificed so the rain would come and to stop the people from revolting, but in Iphigenia's story, she was sacrificed so the wind would blow so the Greeks could go to war with the Trojans.
