Frank Baxter Student Choice 2: Entry 9
Cabin in the woods.
This movie was an interesting take on modern mythical
creatures. I was pleasantly surprised when the movie combined aspects of technology
with magic. A technological organization was in league with the “old gods” which were
evil, they used technology similar to how the N.I.C.E institute used them in C.S.
Lewis third book “Hideous Strength” Furthermore, three of these organizations existed
around the world, each using mythical beings from the past that related to
their own culture.
Some of the mythical beings were werewolves, spirits, zombies,
to more modern ideas of horror such as clowns. This was accompanied by the
technology such as creating an electronic barrier, chemicals to change
attitudes, advance visual and audio recording. The whole movie was centered
around a ritual that must be conducted every year to please the dark god. Overall
it was a good modern attempt at retelling myths.
