Laura Bellantoni - Journal Entry Narnia #1

Laura Bellantoni
After reading a number of other Lewis works, and reflecting back on the Narnia series, one thing that jumps out at me is Lewis' distaste for selfish actions.  Lewis has a propensity for creating antagonists who are self centered, and they appear throughout the Narnia series.  In the Magician's nephew, Uncle Andrew is a selfish character.  It is his desire to protect himself, first, that leads him to send the children into the Wood between the Worlds.  Uncle Andrew is painted as a foolish, pitiful character who is almost childlike due to his inability to think of others over himself.
The White Witch, as well, is a selfish character.  Her character is explored more deeply in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.  In this story, it is her selfish desire for power and control that motivate her cruel behavior.
