Jacqueline Thornley- Narnia #1

As I was reading through the Chronicles of Narnia I noticed two distinct types of human (and I’m not referring to the Narnian variety) characters. There were characters like Lucy, Peter, and Polly (to name a few) who were innocent and noble from the very beginning. They never brought trouble upon themselves and always treat Aslan and Narnia with reverence and awe. But then there are other characters like Edmund, Eustace, Diggory (to some extent), and even Susan, who are more mischievous, self-centered, and at times disrespectful and even contemptible of Narnia and Aslan. As the series is an allegorical representation of the Bible, we can relate these characters to the different ways people come to God. I think most Christians would like to think of themselves as the Lucy character, but the more I reflect on my own personal experiences, I see that we are more often a Eustace or an Edmund. We are rude, impetuous, stubborn, and extremely prideful. And for some, it takes nothing less than the roar of a lion or harsh correction to truly appreciate the beauty that is Narnia.
