Jacqueline Thornley- Free Choice #3
When going back through my class notes, one of the concepts that I noted was “ritual is the reenactment of myth.” I started to reflect on that and one personal example came to mind. Back home I have a group of friends and every time we get together we always meet in the same place and eat the same food as we did the first time we all hung out together. This ritual always set the mood and reminded us of when we all solidified our friendship. Every time we saw each other we were reenacting that myth. Sadly, when one friend in the group passed away, we continued with the ritual, but it took on a whole new meaning, and a whole new myth was created. Our bond was strengthened over this special ritual, unique to our group of friends.
