Till We Have Faces
(Post #7)
Orual I am the goddess Hybris. I am the personification of insolence,
pride and outrageous behavior. I watch from the heavens above to seek out and
punish any humans that display my virtues. Orual, I have been watching you and
I am charging you for trying to steal my virtues. Your accusations against the
gods have been heard but let me tell you the truth that blinds you. Orual you
are responsible for the misfortunes of Psyche. The gods gave Psyche everything
and you took it all away from her. You believed the things that Psyche told you
were a myth because you were too selfish to let Psyche be happy. You should
have listened to that old teacher of yours because he spoke truth when he
stated, “…if we cannot persuade our friends by reason we must be content ‘ and
not bring a mercenary army to our aid’”. The gods even gave you a glimpse of
the palace so that you would understand but you let your pride convince you
that it was the gods playing a trick on you. You used my trait of outrageous
behavior in order to coercer your sister into listening to you. You used love
as a way to get Psyche back for yourself, but love is not a thing to be used.
The reason why the sounds of chains haunted you during your lifetime was from
your own guilt. The gods do not have the time to go around shaking chains to
make them sound like the sorrows of your sister. When you learn the myth of how
your sister became a goddess you still were determined that it was the gods
fault for Psyche’s sorrow. The blame that you thrust upon us is insolent. You
try and blame the gods for the guilt you feel because deep down inside, you
know that the truth is that you are responsible for Psyhce’s hardships. Orual
you are charged for all the misfortunes of your sister and for stealing my
virtues of insolence, pride, and outrageous behavior. I, Hybris, condemn you to
follow the same hardships that Psyche had to endure.
