I really can’t call myself a philosophy major if I haven’t read the Epic of Gilgamesh. The story (the first myth known in existence) always seems to come up in class and is related to everything. So I figured it was time to give it a read through. Though the story couldn’t be older, I found it surprisingly relevant. The story dealt with issues we still encounter and struggle with today, including friendships, mortality, personal journey, conflict with higher power, and reputation. The story just emphasizes the fact that myth really is universal and that it reveals deep human truths. It also reveals that there are just some things in life that will probably never be known, settled, or agreed upon, but of course that won’t stop the philosophy major from trying!
