Sean Dorsey – Till We Have Faces - Rebuttal of the gods

A shining, intangible figure steps forth from the throng of gods and spirits existing before Orual.

“Dost thou yet realize the folly of thine words, young one? Dost thou finally hear the plaintive cries of the sacrifice that thee purport thyself to be? Thou art a false sacrifice, sending bitter smoke to our home on the mountain. How dare thee to presume to understand our ways and workings, and then to pass judgment on us - there has never yet been one as foolish as thou. Surely there is some truth to thine myth; for thou didst evil to Psyche enough for two sisters. The master of the temple spoke well when he recounted the tale of thee and thine. But didst thou not know? There is truth in all myths whether it be by nature of their telling of the behavior of the gods or the essence of man. I would know, for I am Heimdall and mine golden eyes have seen all the actions of thine life. And despite all thine foolishness, there was yet good intention in thine actions; there is at least partial mercy that is deserved by those who look to protect their siblings, even if said protection is drawn from a selfish desire for absolute love, a love that stifles and does not encourage growth or reciprocation. As such, receive thine punishment: thou must live out each myth about thineself in their entirety until all iterations of thine story are exhausted. Only then shall thee enter paradise and be reunited with thine dearest sister. Begone now, and may thee learn well from the selfish mistakes and blasphemous complaints of thine mortal life.”

A flash of light and Orual is gone from the divine presence. In what seems at once like no time at all and all time itself she returns and is finally and forever reunited with Psyche.
