Jackie Lentz: Outside Reading-1

I found this picture online, and I like the quote. I think it relates to the class not in explaining “who’s to say that dreams and nightmares aren’t as real as the here and now?” or the obvious logical fallacy it poses; but in appreciating what myth can teach us. This class has shown me that myths are one way of understanding reality; that stories can connect us to the world sometimes when real life experiences cannot. When I see an animal I don’t feel compelled to touch it or take care of it, but give it a voice, tell me its story and I will love it forever. C.S. Lewis brought to life Narnia in a way that I don’t understand the world I live in. Nature itself rises to defend humans under attack by the forces of evil in Prince Caspian, and yet, I have to literally stop myself to pick up something to put in a trash can instead of leave it on the ground. So for me, C.S. Lewis’ dreams which have become my dreams are as real as anything in the here and now.
