Jacqueline Thornley- Narnia #2
Something I really liked about the Chronicles of Narnia was the complexity of the characters, specifically relating to good and evil. The villains were self centered but they were not inhuman or so completely evil that you couldn’t see some of your own weaknesses in them. The “good” characters, or the heroes were also realistic. In some situations they struggled to make the right decisions. Sometimes they made mistakes and sometimes they showed weakness. In fact, some “good” characters even did “bad” things. For example, Mr. Tumnas was definitely a hero in the story, but he was originally going to betray the children by turning them into the White Witch. Another good character who did a bad thing was Diggory when he rang the bell and released Jaydas. In both of these situations the characters found redemption, which is something I think we all hope for. Overall, Lewis does a great job at creating real characters.
