Jessica Draut - Space Trilogy #2

C.S. Lewis is truly bold as brass. Throughout the Space Trilogy he simultaneously defends Christianity and bashes the ethics of science - in a science fiction no less! Does anyone else find this to be a bit arrogant or at least incredible on C.S. Lewis's part? If it were merely that Lewis was finding fault with vivesection, I would think nothing of it. This is not the case however, though that is a large part of his argument against modern science. It is quite clear that he is finding fault with most of modern scientific thought. Throughout the Space Trilogy it is the scientists at N.I.C.E. who are the embodiment of evil. They forsake the natural and religious in an attempt to engineer life - or rather a semblance of life. It is the scientists who seek to exploit the world around them; they hold nothing sacred.
