Jacqueline Thornley- Free Choice #4
Is it better to read the book or watch the movie? It’s a debate that is continuous and never comes to a satisfying conclusion. Even in our class, the debate/discussion ended up in the stagnant place it always does, some people are literary purists, others are cinema junkies, and others find the positives and negatives in both storytelling mediums. But perhaps the real debate we should be having is what constitutes a good myth? Let’s forget about the medium the myth is delivered for a second and look at the content. What components should a myth include for it to be good? Should there be hidden meaning? A decent number of archetypes? Should good triumph over evil? I would like just once to see this conversation happen instead of the movie versus book deadlock.
