Out if the Silent Planet

In class, we discussed what it meant to be a tourist versus a pilgrim.  I really liked applying this concept to the space trilogy.  Ransom was definitely a pilgrim.  Lewis calls him the Pedestrian in the beginning of Out of the Silent Planet, because he is just walking for the sake of walking.  Ransom and Devine have a conversation all about walking, and Ransom explains that he does it for his own enjoyment, a concept Devine cannot grasp.  It seems as if Ransom likes to walk for his own company, and to enjoy the scenery and get peace of mind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  I think it's really sad that Ransom is ripped away from his peaceful vacation and kidnapped by Devine and Weston.  But one could argue that he becomes a pilgrim in space.
