Sean Dorsey – Any topic 1 - Solitude Versus Loneliness

This is a fairly personal topic for me and one that I’ve thought about quite a lot after we discussed it in class. For one thing, I think it’s a pretty big wall that separates those who prefer solitude and those who more often experience loneliness, mainly that of introversion as opposed to extroversion. However, the latter two are most likely not exclusive. And just as was noted about loneliness, I think solitude can be achieved in a crowd of people, it’s simply a matter of one’s state of mind or perhaps mental focus. In terms of inclination, on the other hand, I’m pretty sure lonely people are much less inclined to solitude as opposed to those who enjoy solitude being susceptible to loneliness. I definitely have personal experience of the latter; it’s quite difficult to sustain a state of solitude without wanting some sort of company eventually. I think as humans we naturally want to share the joys of life, more often than not.
