Narnia 1-Evan Shively
One of my favorite parts of the Narnia series is C.S Lewis use of main characters. Each character in the novels represent a different aspect of humanity and as such it is easy to relate to each character, some more then others. One of the most interesting of the characters I found was Edward. I think we all have the experience of being a Edward. Jealousy and pride leads us into great evils. In Edward's case his small petty want to get his brothers and sisters back led to the death of Aslan. He sold out his sister for turkish delight, which isn't a very good candy anyway. Other characters such as the lead boy in the Horse in his boy, represent other human characteristics and feelings. We all understand what it is like to feel like the underdog and to want to go on some grand quest. Furthermore, he shows that people who you underestimate can turn out to be princes. Other characters represent different aspects of youth and ideas of bravery and courage. Susan is perhaps the most interesting of the characters in the series. Susan doubts the magic of Aslan and of Narnia. Often portrayed as the most kind of the siblings it is a surprise to see that she is one one who ends up doubting. Susan represents a lot of the conflict in every person. When we grow up it becomes a challenge to hold on to notions of imagination and love, we often become more sedated to popular culture and less willing to believe.
