Zach Wilson--Till We Have Faces 1
I couldn't help but think of linking the character of Orual to Cinderella's stepsisters. The character of the ugly complaining sibling is one which is quite classic and archetypical. The character can and has been recast countless times. It provides an outlet for individuals to be the ugly duckling that gets revenge. People often have been frustrated at the happiness of others, and this story allows for the villain to triumph, or so it seems. Lewis takes the classic villain portrayed in Orual and makes them remorseful, and fixes them. There is redemption even for the ugly sister who was jealous and coveted her husband. This theme of redemption is one that is clearly linked to the religious undertones so common in Lewis' writings. There is also the presentation of how often times perspective prevents individuals from seeing fact objectively and the problem that people must revert to myth to explain their actions.
