Have Faces 2
Assignment
Orual:
We have
been watching you since the day you were born. We’ve seen what you have gone
through as a human on this earth. While it may have seemed like a difficult
life to you, you should know that we smoothed the path before you in many ways
that you never could have realized. I personally was sent before you many times
to ensure that your life would play out with as little personal danger as
possible. When wolves could have attacked you, I lulled them to sleep. When the
arrow of your partner in the hunt could have pierced your heart, I breathed out
to blow it off track. You have been protected in many ways that you do not
acknowledge or show gratitude for.
And yet
when something must go wrong (by your definition) in your life, so that we may
prevent greater tragedy in the life of someone else, you accuse us of treachery
and demand that your will be done rather than ours.
Because
of this ill-natured refusal to accept the life you have been given, your
punishment will be as follows: you will see your sister always, in all her
misery, because you have destroyed her happiness. In every moment you will
think of her, and how your disdain for the proper Order of Love destroyed her
marriage and happiness. You will constantly be reminded of your self-centered
actions; hopefully these reminders will teach you to be less self-centered in
your interactions with others in the future.
