Laura Bellantoni - the Space Trilogy, pilgrimage
When beginning Out of the Silent Planet, the first thing I noticed was the mention of Ransom as "The Pedestrian". The description of him evoked the thought of pilgrimage for me, which we then discussed in class. He is walking in solitude, rather than in isolation, because it appears he has chosen to set on this walk by himself, and he his quite content with that. Solitude, to me, is associated with peace and quiet. You are in solitude because you chosen to be there, and are most likely content with being in solitude. Isolation, however, has a more negative connotation. To me, one is in isolation because another being has exerted force or power over you and placed you there.
